Tomash Rylskyi — scientist, teacher, and organizer of the first test station for agricultural machines in Ukraine and Poland

Abstract

Goal. To reveal the main stages of the life and creative path of Tomash Rylskyi — the professor of the Higher Agricultural School in Dubliany, to summarize his greatest scientific achievements in the field of agricultural research, to study the contribution to the organization of the first testing station of agricultural machines and higher agricultural education. Methods. General scientific — analysis, synthesis, generalization; historical — biographical, historical-comparative, problem-chronological. Results. It is confirmed that T. Rylskyi is the organizer of the first testing station for agricultural machines and equipment on the territory of Ukraine and Poland. The scientist made a significant contribution to the process of mechanization of farmers’ labor; made significant efforts to scientifically substantiate the choice of agricultural tools and equipment. Having joined the pedagogical activities, the scientist created and headed the Department of rural engineering at the Higher Agricultural School in Dubliany. Through his many years of publishing and teaching activities, he contributed to the formation of a whole constellation of highly qualified specialists in the field of agriculture. Conclusions. Professor Tomash Rylskyi held the positions of deputy director of the Higher Agricultural School in Dubliany, head of the Chernihiv Lower Agricultural School, and director of the Regional Educational Center in Dubliany. The efforts of the scientist laid the foundations of the Museum of agricultural machines and tools, where numerous models and drawings of agricultural structures, geodetic equipment, and drainage facilities were presented. As a participant, judge, and secretary-referent of many regional and international exhibitions of agricultural machinery, T. Rylskyi made a significant contribution to the popularization of agricultural knowledge.
