Scientifically based approaches to increase the resource potential of Ukrainian Polissia to ensure the food security of the state

Abstract

Goal. To carry out an analysis of natural agro-ameliorative conditions, land, water, and other main resources of the Ukrainian Polissia, to justify scientific approaches to the increase of its resource potential as an important component of the food security of the state based on the development of adaptive measures, which should be based on new energy, water, and resource-saving methods of land reclamation. Methods. Generalization and systematization (analysis and elaboration of the results of experimental, statistical, field and research-production studies), predictive simulation modeling (implementation of a machine experiment with the use of modern information and computer technologies for predictive evaluation on a long-term basis of indicators and parameters of the effectiveness of the functioning of water management reclamation facilities and complexes in variable natural agroreclamation conditions). Results. A set of adaptive measures was developed and proposed — organizational, agrotechnical, agromelioration, and hydrotechnical, aimed at increasing the level of awareness of the public and land users regarding adaptation needs, gradual transition to the use of new varieties and types of crops, effective regulation of the water regime, regulation and accumulation of moisture in the soil profile, and within the system to increase soil moisture availability, transition from traditional periodic moistening of drained lands to regular improvement of water regulation technologies, types and designs of reclamation systems and their technical elements based on the creation of water-accumulating drainage systems, improved methods of their design and calculation. Conclusions. The implementation of the proposed set of measures will make it possible to increase the productivity of the lands of the Ukrainian Polissia and ensure effective adaptation of agricultural production on them to modern technological and climatic changes, which will contribute to the growth of the resource potential of the region and its role in ensuring the country’s food security.
