Abstract

The purpose. The survey of the literature on use of corn as model system for genetic researches. Results. History of corn as model organism, beginning from Gregor Mendel's classical investigations is presented. Advantages of corn as model plant are described. The information on parentage, domestication and spread of corn on the basis of modern molecular and archeological data is brought. The state of the art of researches on genetics and genonomy of corn is shown. Conclusions. Genetic regularities for the first time determined on corn, are tolerated on other cultures that promoted heightening of general level of genetic researches and selection studies for farm-production
